What we remove
Concrete removal covers a wide range of residential and small commercial jobs.
Driveways
Single and double-width driveways, asphalt or concrete, broken out and hauled away.
Patios and pads
Old concrete patios, pool decks, and utility pads removed and disposed of.
Slabs and footings
Garage slabs, shed pads, and old foundation slabs broken out as a standalone job or as part of a larger demolition.
Sidewalks and walkways
Cracked or settled sidewalks and walkways removed ahead of replacement or landscaping.
Reinforced vs. plain concrete
Not all concrete breaks out the same way, and that affects both the work and the price.
Plain concrete
Standard poured slabs, patios, and sidewalks without steel reinforcement break out and load faster, keeping cost lower.
Reinforced concrete
Rebar or wire mesh (common in driveways and structural slabs) takes extra time to cut and separate from the concrete, which is why reinforced work carries an add-on cost.
Mixed jobs
Many driveways have reinforced sections and plain sections. We assess this on-site so your quote reflects what's actually there, not a guess.
Disposal and recycling
Removed concrete is hauled off-site for disposal, with recycling used where it's a practical option for the material and volume involved.
After removal
Planning a new driveway or patio afterward?
We handle the removal and disposal side of the job: breaking out the old concrete, hauling it away, and leaving a clean, level base. Pouring a brand-new driveway or patio is a separate trade from demolition. If that’s part of your plan, tell us up front and we can talk about scope and, where it’s useful, point you toward that next step, but installing new concrete isn’t a service we provide directly.
We look at the concrete, check for reinforcement, and confirm access before quoting.
2
Break out
Concrete is broken out with equipment sized to the job, cutting reinforcement as needed.
3
Load and haul
Debris is loaded and hauled off-site for disposal or recycling.
4
Site clean-up
The area is left level and clear, ready for a new install, landscaping, or your next trade.
Concrete removal pricing
General concrete removal runs $3 to $8 per square foot including disposal. Reinforced concrete adds roughly $1 to $3 per square foot on top of that for the extra cutting time. A typical full driveway project runs $1,200 to $8,600 depending on single vs. double width and reinforcement. Every job's scope and any workmanship terms are set out in your written quote.
Plain concrete
$3-$8/sq ft
Patios, slabs, sidewalks
Disposal included
No reinforcement cutting required
Old concrete doesn't go anywhere on its own, and cracked, settled, or simply outdated driveways, patios, and slabs are one of the most common removal jobs we handle across Ottawa. Whether it's a full driveway replacement or a single patio slab in the backyard, the process is the same: break it out, haul it away, and leave the site ready for whatever's next.
Reinforced concrete costs more to remove, and here's why
Not every slab is created equal. Plain, unreinforced concrete (a lot of older patios, sidewalks, and pads) breaks out relatively cleanly. Reinforced concrete, which has steel rebar or wire mesh embedded in it for strength, is common in driveways and structural slabs, and that reinforcement has to be cut and separated during removal. That extra step is why reinforced concrete carries an add-on cost over plain concrete removal. We check for reinforcement during the on-site assessment so your quote is based on what's actually there.
Disposal handled, so you're not stuck with a pile of concrete
Every concrete removal job includes hauling the debris off-site. We use disposal and recycling options that make sense for the material and volume on a given project, so you're left with a clean, level site rather than a pile of broken concrete to deal with yourself.
Concrete removal FAQ
What's the cost difference between reinforced and plain concrete removal?
Plain concrete typically runs $3 to $8 per square foot including disposal. Reinforced concrete, which has rebar or wire mesh inside it, adds roughly $1 to $3 per square foot on top of that because the reinforcement has to be cut and separated from the concrete during removal.
What happens to the concrete after it's removed?
It's hauled off-site for disposal, with recycling used where it's a practical option for the material and the volume involved on a given job.
How long does a driveway removal take?
It depends on the size, whether it's single or double width, and how much reinforcement is in it. We give a project-specific timeline as part of your written quote after the on-site assessment.
Can you pour a new driveway after you remove the old one?
Removal and disposal is our service. Pouring new concrete or asphalt is a separate trade, so if you're planning a new driveway or patio afterward, let us know and we'll talk through scope, but installing the new surface isn't something we handle directly.
Do I need a permit to remove a driveway or patio?
Most straightforward driveway, patio, or sidewalk removals don't trigger the same permit process as demolishing a building. If your project is tied to a larger structural or foundation change, that may fall under standard building permit or Demolition Control requirements. We can help you understand what applies to your specific project, but confirming with the City is the property owner's responsibility.
